One more person has reportedly died from Thursday’s road crash near Konongo. The deceased was said to be among some 18 persons admitted at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after Thursday’s fatal accident.
The death was confirmed by the Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit at Konongo, ASP Augustine Mensah on Adom TV’s BADWAM program on Multi TV.
17 people were initially said to have died when the Grandbird Bus they were travelling on from Kumasi to Accra apparently veered off the road and collided with an executive bus from Accra to Kumasi at about 3am on Thursday.
An Administrator at the accident unit of the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital, Emmanuel Aboagye who also spoke on the program said he was optimistic that the remaining 17 victims who are currently in a stable condition, will survive although he indicated that the degree of injuries they sustained are worrying.
3 Out of the 17 currently on admission he revealed are children whose parents are yet to be identified.
48 other passengers reported to have sustained severe injuries during the accident are receiving treatment at the Agogo Hospital, Konongo Odumasi Hospital, and the Komfo Anokye teaching hospital.
A Medical officer at the Konongo Odumasi Hospital, Dr. Akuamoah Boateng who described the incident as horrific told show host, Kwadwo Asare Baffuor Acheampong that but for a stand by ambulance the hospital had, a lot more lives would have been lost.
According to him, about 20 out of the 30 victims who were rushed to the Konongo Odumasi hospital in a critical condition have been treated and discharged. “The ten are still at the intensive care unit receiving treatment” he added.
