Ken Kuranchie, editor of the Searchlight newspaper and Kofi Wayo, founder and leader of the National Renaissance Party (NRP) are accusing each other of being responsible for the story making the rounds in the media that Nana Akufo-Addo uses cocaine.
On a Radio Gold news bulleting on Monday February 11, 2008, which was monitored by myjoyonline, Kofi Wayo was reported to have said on a Radio Gold Current Affairs programme, ‘Alhaji and Alhaji’ that Nana Akufo-Addo is a drug addict and he should go for a blood test to prove he is clean.
When asked how he got to know that Akufo-Addo uses drugs, Kofi Wayo said Ken Kuranchie told him.
According to Kofi Wayo, Kuranchie told him this about seven or eight years ago that Nana Akufo-Addo smokes ‘wee’ or marijuana.
But Ken Kuranchie is challenging Kofi Wayo to provide proof.
In his response on Radio Gold’s Morning Show, Kuranchie denied ever telling Kofi Wayo that the NPP flag bearer uses any hard drugs.
Kofi Wayo said on the show that Ken Kuranchie came to him then to ask him for money so he could spy on some journalists and politicians and that was when he told him about Akufo-Addo.
In a telephone conversation with myjoyonline however, Ken Kuranchie denied the allegations, saying the time that Kofi Wayo is referring to, around the year 2000, he did not know him (Wayo).
He said the allegations against him by Kofi Wayo are baseless and untrue.
Ken Kuranchie also accused Radio Gold of unprofessional conduct for allowing Kofi Wayo to make such allegations that were simply based on rumours on air.
