The Kwahu East District Assembly members have for the third time failed to confirm Mr Samuel Asamoah, the President’s nominee, as the District Chief Executive (DCE).Mr Asamoah, the incumbent DCE, polled 16 votes, representing 50 percent, out of the 32 votes cast in an election supervised by Mr Eric Mensah Bonsu, the Deputy Eastern Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC).Some of the assembly members, before the voting, engaged in verbal exchanges that showed a partisan division amongst them.
Earlier in an address, Ms Helen Adjoa Ntoso, Eastern Regional Minister, cautioned that the district assembly concept, if made partisan, would hamper development.
She reiterated government’s commitment to develop all communities, adding that it was urgent to confirm the Municipal and District Chief Executives (MDCEs) speedily to help to ensure this.
Abetifihene Nana Asiedu Agyemang urged the assembly members to think about the development of the district and confirm the MDCE’s.
The assembly members however failed to heed their advice and rejected the nominee.
