Renowned Ghanaian highlife musician Kwaisey Pee, born Akwasi Poku Addea, is preparing to mark a monumental 25 years in the music industry with a series of celebratory events in the pipeline.
Adding to the excitement of this milestone year is his recently released single “Obibini,” featuring award-winning rapper Okyeame Kwame, which, while not created specifically for the anniversary, is amplifying the buzz around his legacy.
Released on July 18, “Obibini” is rapidly gaining traction across streaming platforms and social media, with fans lauding its seamless blend of highlife melodies and modern rap verses.

The title, an Akan term meaning “Black person,” reflects a powerful celebration of Black identity, African heritage, and Ghanaian pride.
Described by Kwaisey Pee as a “cultural banger,” the track honours his roots, with Okyeame Kwame delivering verses that amplify themes of empowerment, dignity, and cultural pride.
The collaboration fuses smooth vocals and traditional instrumentation with contemporary energy, striking a balance between nostalgia and innovation.
Kwaisey Pee shared his enthusiasm on social media, posting:
“Obibini by myself and my brother @okyeamekwame is available on all streaming platforms… update your playlist now!”
The official music video and behind-the-scenes studio clips have been circulating on Instagram and TikTok, with fans expressing their excitement using the #Obibini and #25YearsOfKwaiseyPee hashtags.
Born into a musical lineage as the son of legendary highlife artist Kweku Addea, also known as Agyaaku, Kwaisey Pee began honing his craft in the late 1990s.
His debut album, Nyame Ye Odo (1998), introduced his soulful voice, followed by hits like “Krokro Me,” “Akono Yaa,” and “Me Hia Odo.” His 2007 Best Male Vocal Performance win at the Ghana Music Awards cemented his status as a highlife icon.
Despite quieter periods, Kwaisey Pee has consistently delivered music that resonates with themes of love, identity, and culture, he has equally demonstrated his ability to connect with younger audiences while staying rooted in highlife. “Obibini” further showcases his versatility and commitment to cultural storytelling.
As he gears up to celebrate his 25th anniversary, Kwaisey Pee is expected to announce a series of media appearances, performances, and fan engagements in the coming weeks.
Sources close to his team hint at a potential anniversary concert or mini-tour, building on the success of past events like his 2012 Lovers’ Night Concert at the National Theatre, which featured artists like Efya and Nana Tuffour.
“Obibini” is available on major streaming platforms, including Apple Music, Spotify, Boomplay, and Audiomack.
For fans of Ghanaian highlife and culturally conscious music, this release is a must-listen. Stay tuned for updates on Kwaisey Pee’s 25th-anniversary celebrations via his official social media channels.
