The General Legal Council (GLC) has suspended Lawyer Kwame Fosu-Gyeabour for a period of 12 months.

The suspension was imposed following a disciplinary hearing in which Fosu-Gyeabour was found guilty of filing false documents in court. The decision was made by a three-member disciplinary panel following the lawyer's conviction on three counts under Rule 2(2) of the Legal Profession (Professional Conduct and Etiquette) Rules, 1969 (L.1. 613).

Fosu-Gyeabour was found guilty of filing false documents in two cases. In the first case, he filed an entry of judgment at the High Court, Accra, for an order for "recovery of possession" in favor of his client when he knew or ought to have known that the order for which he sought enforcement was not supported by the judgment of the Court.

In the second case, he filed an entry of judgment at the High Court, Accra, for an order for "cost of ten thousand Ghana Cedis" in favor of his client when he knew or ought to have known that the order for which he sought enforcement was not supported by the judgment of the Court.

Fosu-Gyeabour pleaded guilty to both charges and was accordingly convicted on his own plea. He prayed for mitigation of his sentence after rendering an apology to the disciplinary panel.

The disciplinary panel imposed a 12-month suspension on Fosu-Gyeabour's practicing certificate. During the period of his suspension, Fosu-Gyeabour shall not hold himself out as a lawyer or attend chambers or render or purport to render any professional legal services to the public. He shall not attend chambers at any time during the period of his suspension.

The decision to suspend Lawyer Kwame Fosu-Gyeabour underscores the commitment of the disciplinary panel to uphold the integrity and ethical standards of the legal profession.

Such measures aim to safeguard the trust and confidence placed by the public in legal practitioners. The GLC is the body responsible for regulating the legal profession in Ghana. It is empowered to discipline lawyers who violate the rules of professional conduct.
