The Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Junior says men of God who prophesy about a possible instability coming to Ghana because of the ongoing Supreme Court hearing may be suffering from high fever.
Mr. Pratt was reacting to the recent statement the General Overseer of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC), Dr. Mensa Anamua Otabil that he can sense “something heavy” befalling Ghana within the next one month if Christians do not wake up and pray for the country.
Dr. Otabil’s statement was not the first from a man of God concerning what could happen in this country this year, particularly as a result of the verdict from the ongoing presidential petition in the Supreme Court.
Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Kwesi Pratt said the “if clause” in Dr. Mensa Otabil’s statement alone is a sign that he himself is not sure of the prophecy and he is hiding behind that conditional clause, just like most prophets do.
He said it will be difficult to evaluate whether the prophesies are motivated by the ailment of the pastors or are genuine as they claim adding that he is aware that when people suffer from hay fever they have hallucinations.
Pratt said Ghana does not need a pastor to prophesy that tension building up in the country because of the Supreme Court case because that is obvious.
He noted that pastors are humans and they can “get sick” so there is no proof if a pastor, prophesying doom, has high fever or not.
“People see visions when they have high fever and it is difficult to tell if these prophecies are due to high fever or real. I have personally had pastor prophecy doom about me and nothing happened so I have doubt about some of these prophecies,” he said.
Pratt is particularly worried about how some pastors are creating fear and panic in the country with the prophecies, and he thinks some of those pastors need to be examined.
Another panel member, and MP for Tema East, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover disagreed with Pratt’s submission that men of God who prophecy doom may be suffering from high fever.
“We cannot generalize that all pastors are suffering from high fever but it might be few of them,” Titus Glover asserted.
Hon. Titus-Glover noted that a man of God like Dr. Mensa Otabil will not just come out publicly and make such delicate statement without conviction.
He therefore called on Ghanaians to take Dr. Otabil’s statement seriously and and pray to avert any possible instability in the country.
Meanwhile, the Founder and Leader of New Jerusalem Chapel Bishop J. Y. Adu indicated that prophesy is not just a dream or a function of hallucination, but a it is a revelation from God.
He said anyone who condemns prophecy and prophets is an unbeliever.
