Madam Elizabeth Agyeman, Member of Parliament (MP) for the Oforikrom Constituency in Ashanti, on Monday urged landlords to collaborate with neighbourhood watch communities to curb criminal activities.
She noted that crime prevention was necessary to ensure peace and security for development.
Madam Agyeman was speaking at a meeting with the Oduom Landlords Association at Oduom in the Kumasi Metropolis on Sunday.
She presented GH¢1,000 from her share of the MP’s Common Fund to Mr Kwadwo Yeboah, a member of the Oduom Neighbourhood Watch Committee, to enable him to undergo plastic surgery.
Mr Yeboah sustained gunshot wounds on his right hand during an encounter with armed robbers in the community about three years ago.
The Oduom Landlords Association had already spent about 2,000 Ghana cedis on the victim and appealed to the MP to assist the victim.
The MP also presented 10 pairs of Wellington boots to the Committee.
She said the government had approved the provision of good drinking water to the community, while a new transformer was being installed to boost electricity supply in the area.
Madam Agyeman said the Ministry of Transportation would construct about 1.5 kilometres of road in the constituency and pledged to assist the landlords to improve their standards of living.
Mr Solomon Osei, Chairman of the Association, thanked the MP for the gesture and said it showed her concern for the people in the area.
He called for the provision of streetlights and the construction of drainage systems in the community.
