In an election anticipated to be a no-go area for any other candidate apart from the former National Coordinator of the Ghana Youth Employment and Entrepreneurial Development Agency (GYEEDA) has panned out differently.
Abuga Pele who is the current Member of Parliament (MP) of the Chiana-Paga could not maintain his dominance over the Constituency in the Saturday parliamentary primary of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) resulting in his defeat to another candidate.
Legal practitioner, Rudolf Amenga-Etego displaced the former GYEEDA boss polling 4,337 votes out of the total 9,749 votes cast.
Mr Pele came second with 4,177 votes followed by Jonathan Nyaaba who polled 825 votes.
The total rejected votes was 410.
Even though many political analysts had predicted an overwhelming victory for Mr Pele he was not able to mass enough support from the at least 13,602 delegates who showed up to cast their votes.
The primary was put on hold by the NDC at the time it was holding primaries across the country in a what it described as “strategic”.
This development infuriated residents who accused the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party of scheming to make Mr Pele go uncontested.
No amount of explanation was enough to douse their unresolve call for the primary to be conducted.
Some of the voters disclosed to Myjoyonline that one of the things that went against Mr Pele was his outstanding trial in the court over alleged misappropriation of funds at GYEEDA.
