The National Sports Authority (NSA), has eulogised Black Stars captain, Andre Ayew, for what they describe as 'unbridled service' to Ghana.

The authority, led by its Board Chairman, Seth Panwum, on Friday, December 9, 2022, paid a courtesy call on the 2009 U-20 World Cup winner and his family in Accra.

"I, on behalf of the National Sports Authority (NSA), led a delegation to the house of Ghana Black Stars Captain, Andre Ayew, on Friday, to pay a courtesy call on him and his family," Mr Panwum wrote on his Facebook.

He added that "Andre's service to our country over the years has been unbridled. Since his emergence into the scene, he has been ever-present for our motherland anytime he is called upon, winning Africa's only U-20 World Cup title."

Andre Ayew was named captain of the Black Stars prior to the 2019 AFCON in Egypt where Ghana exited at the round of 16 after losing a penalty shootout against Tunisia.

Per Panwum, the Al Sadd forward has been an immerse leader and should use his leadership skills to rally his colleagues to build a competitive team for the next AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire.

"He [Andre] has also played seven African Cup of Nations and three World Cups. His crucial penalty against South Africa at the Cape Coast stadium secured Ghana's qualification to a fourth World Cup participation in Qatar.

"As a leader who takes responsibility for the team and the country, he took a crucial penalty against Uruguay[in the ongoing FIFA World Cup] despite going through difficult times [and missed it].

"The NSA, as a body responsible for the development of sports in the country, visited him to let him know we appreciate his contribution to football, especially our national teams, and encouraged him to rally his teammates to fight for the upcoming African Cup of Nations.

"We also encouraged him not to drop his shoulders because he has our support and that of Ghanaians to always remain a key ambassador of our country.

"Andre was thankful for our visit, describing our purpose of visit as a sign of good leadership. He promised us that he would do his best for mother Ghana and will gather his teammates to do better in subsequent tournaments."

Ghana exited the World Cup 2022 after losing 2-0 to Uruguay in the team's last Group H match.
