The government has withdrawn all criminal charges against former National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, and the party’s Communications Officer, Anthony Kwaku Boahen.
The two had been on trial over a leaked audio recording in which Ofosu Ampofo was allegedly heard discussing plans to incite violence and create instability in the country.
Attorney-General Dominic Ayine announced the decision, effectively ending a legal battle that had been ongoing since December 2019.
The claim was that they had plans to blame the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The leaked recording allegedly detailed plans involving kidnappings, arson, and verbal assaults on prominent figures, including the Chairman of the National Peace Council, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, and Electoral Commission Chairperson, Jean Mensa.
Ofosu Ampofo and Boahen were facing charges of conspiracy to cause harm.
However, the case has been dismissed after the government decided to withdraw from the trial.
