Madam Joyce Aryee, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Mines on Thursday observed that the nation's growth largely depended on monies deposited at the banks by its citizenry.
She has therefore appealed to Ghanaians cultivate the habit of savings to promote the growth of the economy.
"If the culture of saving is cultivated, people as well as government can borrow to expand businesses and infrastructure in the economy."
Speaking at the official opening of the eighth branch of Stanbic Bank, Ghana, at the Accra Mall, Madam Aryee noted it is when people continue to save that the nation would be able to acquire the requisite resources needed for its growth and attain its middle-income status by 2015.
Madam Aryee, who is also a board member of the bank referred to the 2008 budget passed by Parliament and noted that, "a look at it emphasized on the growth of the economy hence the need to save."
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) said the bank was committed to providing excellent customer service and upholding high sense of integrity and called for teamwork among staff.
Mr. Alhassan Andani, Managing Director, Stanbic Bank Ghana said the bank was committed to its promise of opening 25 branches by the end of 2008, thereby bringing banking to the doorstep of all.
He said Ghanaians have come to appreciate fully the essence of shopping malls and to appreciate better advantages of seeing their banks located in malls.
"We want you to shop in convenience and shop with a secured mind. It is not really a good idea to carrying bulk amounts around nowadays, just walk into the bank and take the amount required for your shopping needs," he remarked.
