The University of Ghana Council has given the nod for the establishment of the John A. Kufuor Centre for Leadership, Governance and Development at Ghana’s premier university. The approval was contained in a statement signed by the Registrar of the university, J.M. Budu. The centre is a multi-purpose modern structure whose construction was sponsored from the recently established John A. Kufuor Foundation. The structure will live up to the standard of a presidential centre of international repute, according to the statement. The centre is intended to complement the academic programmes being run by the university. Former President Kufuor, recipient of the latest World Food Prize Foundation award for his contribution towards the alleviation of hunger in his country, had hinted soon after the announcement of the prize that he would use the proceeds to promote education. He specifically mentioned the University of Ghana as the place for the project pointing out another one for the Ashanti Regional capital in the form of a library. Since the end of his tenure as president, the former President has ridden high in the international community, receiving one award after another, alongside assignments in recognition of his outstanding performance while in office.
