The Legon District Police Command at the weekend arrested 10 suspected criminals in possession of pump-action guns and other lethal weapons.
Other items included seven rounds of cartridges, a black polythene bag with some quantities of leaves believed to be Indian Hemp, a small barrel containing alcohol soaked with Indian hemp and a black travelling bag with a quantity of copper tubes cut into pieces
and a large hammer.
Speaking to GNA, the Legon District Commander, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (A.S.P.) Mr. Richmond Bonsu gave the names of the suspected criminals as; Alfred Ukah, 26 a Nigerian national, Emmanuel Osei, 51, a security guard of Trasaco Company, Frederick Wureku Akwesi, 32; Eric Koranteng, 17; Charles Arko, 18; Isaac Mensah, 38; Kwame Owusu, 31; Jeremiah Abakisi, 35; John Nyampong, 32 and Agbevedi Kwaku, 32.
Mr. Richmond Bonsu said, the Legon Police with 19 armed personnel carried out a swoop at 4.00 am. at East-Legon, Adjiringanor and American House. The police were able to retrieve the items from an uncompleted building.
The District Commander added that, the leaves would be sent to the Police forensic laboratory for examination.
Mr. Richmond Bonsu also called on the general public to assist the Legon Police about the hideouts of the armed robbers and that whatever information that may be given to the police would be kept confidential and informants would be rewarded.
Commander Bonsu complained that, there had been frequent armed robbery cases within his jurisdiction and called on the public co-operate with the Legon police.He added that, an identification parade would be organized to identify the criminals and would process them for court after finding them culpable during investigations.
In another development, the East Legon East Police has impounded a taxi cab with registration No. GR 3661 Z suspected to have been used in another robbery at East Legon on Thursday night.
An unidentified man, who attempted to move the taxi car met his death during the cross-fire between the police and the armed robbers has been deposited at the 37 Military Hospital for autopsy. The East Legon Police are investigating the incident.Source: GNA
