President of the Ghana Boxing Authority, Abraham Kotei Neequaye, has appealed to government and corporate bodies to support Boxing in Ghana.
Ghana has in the past produced world champions like DK Poison, Azumah Nelson, Nana Yaw Kunadu Ike Bazuka, Alfred Kottey, Richard Commey, Emmanuel Tagoe, Joseph Agbeko, Joshua Klottey, Issac Dogboe with the most recent one being Samuel Takyi who won bronze in Tokyo.
However, boxing, which has brought more glory to the country doesn't get enough funding and attention like football which is why Abraham Neequaye is urging Ghanaians, government and agencies to support the sport that has brought Ghana much joy.
"I've told Ghanaians, we know our strength, our strength is boxing, let us pay attention to boxing so let people keep talking about us at world level," he said in an interview with Joy Sports.
"You can see other disciplines are struggling to take us there. I'm begging Ghana, the corporate bodies and the government to pay attention to the Sports that brings glory Ghana, boxing."
Ghana's recent glory in boxing was at the just ended Tokyo 2020 Olympics which saw 20-year-old Samuel Takyi win Ghana's first bronze medal after 29 years.
