Mr Mark Woyongo, Upper East Regional Minister, on Thursday said there was the need to coordinate all activities concerning water around the eastern corridor of the region to ensure the maximum use of the resource.
Mr Woyongo made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Bolgatanga when he returned from Burkina Faso where officials from Togo, Burkina Faso and Ghana met with Pagev, the French equivalent of Water Resources Commission.
He said Pagev had sponsored water resource utilization in the three countries and the meeting was called to assess the benefits derived from those projects.
Major activities of the organization were water resource management and aforestation and involved some communities in the Bawku East and Bawku West Districts.
He noted that among some benefits was the provision of farming implements to undertake tree planting activities.
Mr Woyongo said a major issue the organization raised was the inability of their staff to monitor most of their activities around the eastern corridor as a result of the security situation in Bawku and its environs, more so as motorbike riding has been banned in that area.
He said the region was considering relaxing the ban on motorbike riding which came into force in the Bawku Township for security reasons.
