A 31-year-old Liberian, George Saymor aka bulldog was on Friday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Accra Circuit Court for possessing two parcels and eight wrappers of cannabis.
Saymor, who initially pleaded not guilty, changed his plea to guilty after the results of dried leaves found on him were tendered in court.
The convict who was being held for possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority, pleaded with the court to deal leniently with him.
The court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri convicted him on his own plea.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mary Agbozo told the court that on September 7, last year, personnel of the Narcotics Control Unit of the Ghana Police Service, proceeded to a narcotic drug peddling spot at Buduburam Refugee Camp.
DSP Agbozo said a group of young men who were at the spot took to their heels when they saw the Police personnel but Saymor was among those arrested.
When Saymor's pocket was searched eight wrappers of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis and bunch of keys were found.
DSP Agbozo said Saymor led the Police to his room where two parcels of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis were retrieved.
