Dansoman-based Liberty Professionals began their campaign of the second round of the Onetouch Premier League on a high note courtesy a 2-0 victory over Sekondi Hasaacas in their Week 16 clash at the Dansoman Carl Reindorf Park on Monday.
The match saw a goal scored in each half through Kofi Nti Boakye and Ashmond Asamoah that ensured the Dansoman lads taking the maximum points.
The match, which was rescheduled to Monday after a heavy downpour on Sunday, failed to live up to expectation as the soggy nature of the pitch made ball control very difficult for both sides.
Despite the poor nature of the playing field, Boakye managed to break the deadlock with a contender for the fastest goal of the season award, by scoring under a minute when he slotted home from Emmanuel Osei’s free-kick.
The goal did not seem to unsettle the visitors as they rather dominated proceedings but erratic shooting upfront ensured the score-line remained unchanged.
The closest the visitors came on target was on the stroke of half time, but Liberty’s goalkeeper Yaw Berko stretched to his elastic limit to parry away Awudu Musah’s goal bound shot.
The introduction of Peter Essien saw Hasaacas maintain their dominance in the second half yet Berko was on target to stand between them and any goal.
In the 49th and 55th minutes, Joseph Afriyie was unfortunate to see his header and volley saved by Berko, who was adjudged the most valuable player of the match.
With Hasaacas almost close to grabbing an equalizer, Liberty’s midfielder Asamoah stunned the sparse crowd by connecting home from a goalmouth scramble in the 71st minute to seal victory for the home side.
