Lightening has struck down five students of the Oda Senior High School in the Eastern region, leaving one of them dead.
The incident took place on Thursday when the students of the school were engaged in an inter-house soccer competition.
The 20-year-old deceased, Solomon Safo, who was a first year student with Amissah Atta House was pronounced dead at the Oda Government Hospital upon arrival.
In an interview with Joy news, Detective Sergeant Gideon Adator of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Oda Police confirmed the incident.
According to him, the Assistant Headmaster of the school said although the clouds were gathering, the students were already on the field for a soccer competition between Ahinkrah house and Amissah Atta house. Unfortunately, lightening struck, hitting five students.
He added that, four of the students managed to gain consciousness but Solomon couldn't wake up and was immediately rushed to the hospital together with the other four students for treatment, and that was where he was pronounced dead. However, the other four students were treated and discharged the same day.
The Detective added that Solomon’s body is currently at the Oda Government Hospital's morgue for postmortem.
Speaking to Joy news' Mike Ansah Ampofo, the father of the deceased explained he was at home at about 7:00pm when the senior house master of the school called to inform him about the death of his son and asked him to come the next morning.
He added, however that “Indeed, it is a big blow to the whole family.”
