The Project Coordinator for Lightwave eHealth Solutions, Eric Adjei, has raised concerns over what he describes as irregularities in the audit process conducted by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) into the company’s operations.
Speaking on the JoyNews AM Show, he suggested that some issues may be linked to personal or institutional conflicts rather than genuine procedural lapses.
According to Adjei, Lightwave, the developers of the Lightwave Health Information Management System (LHIMS), have cooperated with audits and investigations, but the involvement of a competitor in the process raises questions about impartiality.
“We do not have any problem with any institution going to do an audit or investigation. But again, why do you send a competitor to go do an audit?” he asked.
The coordinator further disclosed that GH₵10.45 million, initially allocated to Lightwave from NHIA funds, was redirected to the auditing institution in 2024.
He described the transaction as “surprising” and suggested that only the Minister of Health can clarify the circumstances behind it.
The controversy arises as the Ministry of Health alleges that Lightwave breached a $100 million contract by failing to connect 950 health facilities to the LHIMS platform.
Adjei, however, maintains that the company has followed its obligations and is confident that the funds and audit irregularities point to a deeper, unresolved issue.
He added: “There is some form of hidden mystery which I think it is only the minister of health, the current minister of health, that will be able to answer because we’ve done our checks, and everything points to one particular direction.”
Lightwave eHealth Solutions has been a key partner in Ghana’s digital health initiatives, aiming to improve efficiency, data management, and service delivery across the country’s healthcare system.
The current dispute highlights ongoing challenges in oversight, contract management, and transparency in public-private partnerships.
