A confident Heart of Lions left supporters of Kumasi Asante Kotoko in tears Sunday evening after stunning them 1:0 at the Baba Yara Stadium in their Glo Premier League encounter.
An 11th minute strike by Ibrahim Suleimana, unmarked in the Kotoko vital area, saw Lions who featured three former Kotoko operatives; Godwin Ablordey and Daniel Yeboah on the field of play, and Paa Kwesi Faibin as head coach, leaving Kotoko followers with long faces and a long search for solutions to the defending league champions’ sloppy run lately.
The loss leaves Kotoko with only a point from their last six league games while for Lions who played confidently from kick-off, it was a well deserved revenge. Kotoko pipped Lions by 2:1 in the first round at Kpando.
And while the win left Lions’ supporters with wild jubilations, a section of Kotoko fans were suggesting on radio their darling club was being paid back in their own coin- for shabbily haranguing their former coach, Bashiru Hayford out of his job played.
Kotoko next trek to Sekondi as guests of Eleven Wise and it looks like their woes face another deepening. Wise beat Kotoko 2:1 in the first round in Kumasi. On Saturday, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, owner and Life Patron of Kotoko, dissolved the club’s management team and installed an interim administration.
