Ghanaian boxing legend Azumah Nelson wants the Sports Ministry and key stakeholders of the pugilistic sport to concentrate on developing good coaches.
According to the Former WBC champion, the poor standard of coaching is to blame for the country’s long search for a major world title since 2010.
Richard Commey is the only boxer to have come close to ending the drought but suffered a 12-round split decision against Robert Easter Jr to miss out on the IBF World World lightweight title in Reading, Pennsylvania.
The plight has worsened by the passing of key trainers including late Napolean Tagoe and Godwin Nii Dzanie Kotey, aka ‘’coach Alloway’’ and Azumah wants a change.
He told Joy Sports: “You have to understand we need good trainers that can help groom the boxers to become world champions. Let me say that the coaches themselves have to understand to learn more because they don’t want to learn.''
