Konongo Odumasi Senior High School (KOSS) female pair of Flora Agyeiwaa Manu and Zariyatu Alhassan, justified their pedigree to represent a mixed school by accounting for St. Hubert Seminary to book a place in the last 16 of the 2019 Luv FM High School Debate.

With 146 points against 138, they cruised their way out of the preliminary stage into the main contest involving last year’s quarter-finalists who were seeded.

Before beating the male school, KOSS girls conjured magic to cut Adventist Girls Senior High School to size in an all-female encounter during which Precious Owusu supported Principal Speaker, Flora, to face Philomena Nketia and Sophia Antwi.

Motion for the debate was, “Civil Servants are more corrupt than Politicians” with KOSS arguing in favour.

“Civil servants have longer tenure of office while politicians last up to the next election. As such the civil servant easily discovers loophole in the system to enrich themselves,” Zariyatu fired.

Even though she admits politicians in leadership positions tend to be corrupt, they are the better of two evils.

The fluency and confidence of the speaker attracted applause from the audience in breach of competition rules which are strictly against noise-making during the presentation.

Jubilant St. Hubert SHS  students  saw their joy cut short by KOSS

 The contestants from St. Huberts Senior High School vehemently disagree.

They pointed out, knowledge and fear of the next election encourage politicians to be more corrupt in an attempt to make enough money to secure their positions.

Before the decider, winners on the day had engaged and defeated Adventist Girls on, “Social media has done greater harm to the youth than good”.

The seminarian duo of Isaac Opoku and Obeng Opoku Agyemang, had also edged past the royal ladies of Serwaa Nyarko Girls Senior High School.

They battled it out on the controversial topic, “Partisan politics is the cause of under-development of Africans”.

The finalists arguing against the motion insisted, party politics is the cause of brain drain, an argument earlier raised by the opposing team.

Isaac Opoku’s 'weapon of mass destruction' was his ability to punch holes in the opponent’s argument, probably doing the trick to secure Saint Hubert a place in the group finals. The duo, however, failed to make it against the ladies of KOSS.

It ‘s however, not entirely over for the gentlemen of the seminary who may find themselves in the last 16 if other losing finalists in the preliminary stage are unable to amass points beyond what they made.
