The National Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Peter Mac Manu, has reaffirmed the party’s national conference decision taken to dismiss any purported vote of no confidence passed in some constituency executives throughout the country, including that of Kwabre West in Ashanti.The decision of the National Chairman thus nullifies a decision by the Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the NPP to give due recognition and endorsement to a vote of no confidence passed in the Kwabre West NPP Chairman, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah and some others by a factional group in the constituency.In the said attempt to remove the constituency chairman, the Regional Executive Committee, headed by Robert Yaw Amankwah, single-handedly constituted an interim executive committee that was due for introduction and acceptance last week Sunday, but ended in confusion because it was considered unconstitutional and an imposition of leadership.According to Mr. Mac Manu, all factional groups engaging in petty squabbles and ‘boisterous’ behaviour at the various structures – polling stations, constituencies and regions – of the party nationwide are directed to cease fire.This, he explained, was because the NPP National Executive Committee, having been mandated by its highest body has taken over all conflict zones of the party, particularly, the fire-blazing Kwabre West Constituency where the MP, Emmanuel Owusu Ansah who is the Ashanti Regional Minister and his executives are in collision and a power struggle ahead of 2008 elections.Mr. Mac Manu, who disclosed this in an interview granted to Angel FM in Kumasi, said the National conference decision was supreme and binding on all members, and therefore, he had squashed the endorsement by the Ashanti Regional Executive Committee of the vote of no confidence passed against some constitutionally elected Executives of Kwabre West .He continued that now that the party’s National Executives had finished with the by-elections, they were preparing to roll in to the Ashanti Region and get things done in a constitutional manner in order to restore sanity in the party.Mr. Mac Manu stated further that since the feuds have the potential of shrinking the support base of the party in its stronghold, they did not expect anyone to get in their way to thwart efforts to ensure the calmness and sanity all interested parties are looking forward to.Source: The Chronicle
