The filing of nominations for the membership of the Ghana Football Association (GFA)'s Executive Committee (EC) ends on Friday, and indications are that there is a mad rush for the forms.
As of Wednesday, over 14 people had picked forms to represent the Premier League Clubs.
The club owners and Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) are set to be on a collision course for the Premier League tickets as Moses Armah (President, Medeama), Kofi Manu (CEO, Aduana Stars), Kudjoe Fianoo (CEO, Ashgold), Dr K.K. Sarpong (Board Chairman, Asante Kotoko), Emmanuel Kyeremeh (Chairman, Berekum Chelsea), Felix Ansong (Liberty, Vice-President), Desmond Frimpong-Manso (Heart of Lions), Jones Alhassan Abu (Real Tamale United) and John Mensah had all picked up forms to vie for the six slots allotted to the Premier League.
The race in the Division One League Board (DOLB) is also set to be a very hot contest. Thirteen people, including FA Vice President, Fred Pappoe, George Afriyie and FA spokesperson, Randy Abbey, had picked nomination forms to represent the Division One League Board which has four slots on the committee. Mr. Kwaku Eyiah, vice-chairman of the Interim Committee of the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA), and Happy FM’s Mark Paradise Okocha had also picked up forms for the DOLB.
By the statutes of the GFA, various bodies and interest groups namely the Premier League Clubs, the Division One League Clubs, the Regional Football Associations (RFAs) as well as the constituent bodies made up of juvenile, women’s football, referees association, the Old players association, the coaches association, schools and colleges, Ghana University Sports Association (GUSA) and the Security Service Sports Association (SESSA) are expected to select their representatives to form the executive committee.
Six people - including Madam Habiba Attah, Leanier Addy and Slyvester Mensah (a former executive committee member and Chairman of the Women’s League Board) Mr. B.A Annan (Schools and Colleges), and Joseph Yaw Adu (University Sports), have also picked forms to seek the mandate of the constituent bodies to represent their sole membership on the EC.
The nomination will close on Friday, with the elections taking place through a scheduled of programme.
The bodies will be the first to go to the polls on July 13, while the others are scheduled between July 20 and August 2. The swearing in of the new executive is scheduled for August 4.
