The Madina Division of the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) has arrested a 33-year old allege serial rapist for attempting to rape a passenger on-board his taxi.
The driver, Solomon Otu, was brought to the station Thursday morning by two young men who chanced upon him allegedly trying to have his way with his latest victim.
The suspect's victim, a 29-year old woman whose name has been withheld for security reasons, is said to have boarded the taxi at 3am on Thursday, 31st January, 2013 at Haatso-bohye, a suburb of Accra.
Unknown to her, Solomon Otu, a spare taxi driver, was a notorious rapist fond of raping ladies who board his car at odd hours of the day.
ASP Catherine Srofenyo of Madina DOVVSU told Joy News, another lady who had gone to the police station to lodge a complaint against her husband overheard Solomon's arrest and suspected him to be the assailant who attempted to rape her sister a few weeks ago.
ASP Srofenyo said when the lady's sister was called to the police station, she was able to identify Solomon as her attacker. The allege rapist was easily given away by a cut he had on his right ear. The cut was as a result of a bit he had from the lady when he attempted to rape her.
ASP Catherine Srofenyo noted that there have been complaints of a certain taxi driver in the area who fitted the description of the suspect noted for raping innocent passengers.
She advised ladies who board taxis at odd hours to be careful about the cars they get into and preferably commute in pairs so it would be easier to escape such situations.
Solomon is still in police custody pending further investigations.
