President John Mahama has appointed Aaron Kanor as the new Acting Commissioner for the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).
The appointment was made in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 16(1) of the Ghana Revenue Authority Act, 2009 (Act 791), as amended.
It is pending the constitutionally required advice of the Governing Board, given in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
A formal letter communicating the decision, signed by Dr Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, stated that the appointment takes immediate effect.
In the new role, the Acting Commissioner will provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Customs Division.
The responsibilities include revenue mobilisation, trade facilitation, border security, anti-smuggling operations, and enforcement of all customs laws and regulations.
Mr Kanor is expected to work under the supervision of the Commissioner-General of the GRA.
The mandate includes strengthening institutional integrity, enhancing efficiency, and ensuring strict compliance with applicable laws and international best practices.
President Mahama has also outlined clear expectations for the office holder. The letter emphasised the need to discharge duties with the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
The appointment aligns with the Government’s commitment to transparency, revenue assurance, and institutional reform within the revenue administration system.
Mr Kanor has been asked to accept the appointment in writing within 7 days of receiving the letter.
