Security heads of the various security agencies have been asked to submit their security strategies to the National Security Council for approval ahead of this year’s elections.

This was disclosed by president John Mahama, Tuesday during an interview on Sunrise FM in Koforidua, as part of his Eastern Region campaign tour.

The strategies will be scrutinised and approved by the Council which is the highest body responsible for maintaining security in Ghana.

Elections have been a major source of tension and possible conflict in Ghana even though the country has successfully organised six elections which have largely been peaceful.

The 2016 elections which is only 35 days away is fraught with many legal suits, raising tension even further.

But president John Mahama maintained, that this year's election, like the previous ones will be very peaceful.

He said the security services will quell any untoward incidents that will occur.

"Our security services have what it takes to be able to police and monitor the elections.

"We find that every year before an election, there are all these fears that are raised, a lot of panic is spread across but we've held six successful elections, i don't anticipate this one will be any different," he said.

The president said as commander in chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, he will ensure that there is peace, before, during and after the elections.

As part of the strategies, the president said the security personnel are going to go on joint security exercises to raise the moral of the security services in advance of the elections.
