The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has accused former President John Mahama of deliberately attempting to cast the ruling party in a negative light.
The NPP’s Deputy General Secretary, Haruna Mohammed, rejected Mr Mahama’s claims that President Akufo-Addo and NPP candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, do not prioritise the country's peace and security.
Mr. Mahama recently criticised President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Bawumia for their absence at the National Peace Campaign launch on Sunday.
The NDC flagbearer argued that their presence was essential, given their roles in maintaining national stability, noting that he had canceled a rally in Karaga in the Northern Region to attend the peace event in Accra, only to find the two leaders absent.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, Mr Mohammed explained that Mahama’s remarks were unfounded and that the NPP remains committed to peace.
"He went there not because he wants peace, but because he wanted to negatively position Ghana in the international world," he said.
He suggested that the opposition party should focus its efforts on concrete actions, such as signing the peace pact.
"What at all is wrong with signing a peace accord if you don't have bad intentions of fomenting trouble in this country," he added.
