The Ghana Medical Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, has officially commenced operations, marking a significant step toward supporting the treatment of non-communicable diseases (NCDs) across the country.
In a post on Facebook on Monday, February 23,, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, said the Fund is not only providing financial assistance to patients battling NCDs but is also prioritising long-term investments in critical healthcare infrastructure.
According to the post, key among these investments is the ongoing construction of modern cardiology centres at three major teaching hospitals: Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Tamale Teaching Hospital.
The centres are expected to be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including modern catheterisation laboratories, operating theatres, intensive care units, consulting rooms, pharmacies and dedicated oxygen plants to enhance specialised cardiac care.
The statement further indicated that design concepts of the cardiology centres were captured in an initial image released to the public, while subsequent images show the progress of work currently underway at the various sites.
