President John Mahama is promising more support for the aviation industry in the coming years.
He says the sector has a lot of potential which government intends harnessing for the development of the country.
He was speaking during a sod cutting ceremony for the commencement of works on an airport in Ho.
"The aviation industry in Ghana is growing steadily and as government we are going to provide the necessary support to expand and enhance our aviation infrastructure and services to match the expected growth in demand for services.
"Ho Airport is going to be one of a string of regional airports intended by government to open up the country to aviation services.
"Work will commence this year on the temporary terminal building in Wa and it is my expectation that the Wa Airport will be open for commercial aviation by the end of the first quarter of next year. Cape Coast and Bolgatanga are also being programmed.
President of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs Togbui Afede expressed confidence the airport will open up the region for more business activities.
We expect that the construction of this airport will produce a lot of jobs for the teeming youth at home and the region as a whole.
We expect others to come in and work here from outside of the region. So the jobs promised by this project is great news for the people of the city, region and the nation at large.
He hopes the airport in Ho will trigger many other economic activities in the region and across the country.
