The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has dismissed recent research reports that predict a win for the NPP’s Nana Akufo-Addo in the December 7 general election.
He described the reports as having been concocted by the incumbent New Patriotic Party (NPP), as their own polling predicts a win for the NDC.
“There are a lot of polls that are manufactured. We’ve done our own polling and we’re quite confident. One of our polling shows that we are winning a majority in Parliament, so that is a given. We’re aiming at between 143 and 145 seats. They took more than 37 seats from us and we’re taking most of that back,” he said.
In an interview with Joy News after his Savannah Regional campaign tour, the former President also revealed that pre-election surveys conducted by the NDC indicate that the party will secure a majority in Parliament.
Mr. Mahama ended his 2-day campaign tour of the Region Monday, where he promised to amend the National Pensions Act if re-elected as President.
According to him, the initiative will allow workers who lose their jobs to be paid stipends while they search for new ones.
The tour saw him pay courtesy calls on the Wasepewura, Mumuni Anyame, at his Palace in Daboya and sub-chiefs of other communities to seek their blessings ahead of the election.
He also appealed to the residents and people of the Savannah Region to vote massively for him and the NDC during the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.
Mr. Mahama is expected to begin a tour of the Volta and Oti Regions later today.
