Scores of National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithful across the Eastern Region could not help but express their joy when President John Mahama nominated the party’s Eastern regional chairman for the post of regional minister-designate.
Party sympathizers congratulated Julius Debrah, who has served the NDC in various capacities over the years.
Surprisingly, persons who previously had no empathy for the NDC and other government appointees joined those party people lauding the nomination.
Satisfied with the nomination, several groups and individuals issued statements commending the former Executive Director of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
An Eastern Region-based NDC pressure group known as the “Global Network for Bare Facts” expressed their support for President Mahama’s nominee pick.
In a statement signed by its leader, Richard Nyarko, the group called the president’s decision timely and in the right direction and added that the minister-designate deserves to be mentioned as a notable contributor to the Better Ghana Agenda.
Contributing to the numerous congratulatory messages, the regional office of the NDC applauded the president for appointing one of its own.
According to NDC Eastern Regional Organizer Bismark Tawiah Boateng, Mr. Debrah has been a committed party member whose contributions to the party are immeasurable.
“This man’s contribution has been immense; in opposition, when we needed financial assistance, he was there for us. I remember he financed our trips to the villages when Danny Ofori-Atta of blessed memory formed a pressure group that went to the rural areas to disseminate the good works of the NDC.”
The party organizer recounted how he stood on the party’s ticket in the Suhum constituency on three occasions when many other party members refused to run there on the grounds that the constituency is a New Patriotic Party stronghold.
NDC Eastern Regional Women’s Organizer Madam Evelyn Korang could not hold back her delight at the news of Mr. Debrah’s nomination, saying that the regional executives had long wished to see him head the region.
