President John Dramani Mahama and former President John Agyekum Kufuor will participate in the 68th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, which opens on Monday, September 23, 2013.
The Session is expected to witness the highest attendance in the history of the UN as more than 60 Foreign Ministers and high profile government officials from all over the world are also expected to attend.
The Office of Mr. J.A Kufuor in a release confirmed the former president left Accra Wednesday night for New York, ahead of next week's meeting.
Ex-President Kufuor in his capacity as Chair of the Water and Sanitation for All Partnership will attend meetings of the UN Trusteeship Council and the UN Foundation.
As Special Global Envoy of the International Coalition of Neglected Tropical Diseases, ex-President Kufuor will hold bilateral talks with partners of the Coalition with the aim of increasing funding for the eradication of the seven most neglected diseases in the tropics.
Information Minister Mahama Ayariga told journalists at the Daily Briefing at the Flagstaff House, Friday, President Mahama will also have the opportunity to address the UN General Assembly of Heads of States next week Thursday.
With the 2015 MDGs approaching, the world leaders will be looking at what else they can do to make life better for people in their respective countries.
The general debate is expected to take place from September 24 to October 2, 2013. It will be under the theme “Post 2015 Development Agenda setting the stage”.
Mr. Ayariga said while in the United States, President Mahama will also hold several other meetings with Ghanaians, business groups and deliver a lecture.
