President John Dramani Mahama has indicated that the Iranian president’s visit to the country would not affect Ghana’s relations with the international community.President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Ghana Tuesday on a two-day visit as the last leg of a three-nation African tour. But critics say his visit would be injurious to Ghana’s foreign policy direction.However, in response to the critics, President Mahama touted Ghana’s years of good relation with Iran and told journalists in Accra Wednesday, that there was nothing wrong with the visit.He said the visit would rather afford the two countries to dialogue on issues of global significance.“Iran continues to be a country with which Ghana has cooperation. We both belong to the non-aligned movement and I think that, that relationship creates the platform for us to continue to dialogue on issues of international interests.”He maintained that presidents who visit Ghana would be treated equally.“We belong to the same world and I believe that issues that confront the whole of the world are issues that should be discussed among nations. And so if President Ahmadinejad decided to come on an African visit and he chose Ghana as one of the destinations that he wanted to visit, we will welcome him like we have always welcomed any other President who has visited us.”On his part, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad who is also the Chairman of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) expressed his gratitude to the nation for the warm reception.He said even though the western countries might have issues with Iran, the country bears no grudge with any country.The two countries pledged to contribute their quota to strengthen the Movement.They also signed Memoranda of Understanding on agriculture, education, youth and sports.
