Mahogany Consult has once again partnered with the Future Communicators Foundation (FCF) to offer a two-year scholarship to students of Wisconsin International University College, Ghana (WIUC-GH).
This scholarship is available to 3rd and 4th-year students of the School of Communication Studies and includes tuition coverage and mentoring opportunities.
It marks the second consecutive year WIUC-GH students will benefit from this initiative.
The Future Communicators Foundation, a Canadian-based non-profit, empowers aspiring communication professionals worldwide through scholarships, knowledge-sharing, and networking opportunities.
Each year, the scholarship is guided by a central theme focused on social responsibility, sustainability, climate action, or social justice.
For 2024, the theme is “Communicating the Climate Crisis: Motivating and Measuring Behavioural Change.”
Students participating in this year’s competition are tasked with developing a campaign centred on this theme, using cost-effective resources to inspire action and drive meaningful behavioural change in Ghana. Entries will be judged, with successful candidates receiving two years of tuition fees and mentorship from Mahogany Consult.
Millicent Akunor, Communications Manager at Mahogany Consult, expressed the company’s enthusiasm for the partnership.
“We are thrilled to offer this scholarship again and look forward to seeing how students address climate challenges through their campaigns.
"At Mahogany Consult, we believe in nurturing the next generation of communicators and contributing to the growth of the communications industry across Ghana and West Africa.”
Allard W. van Veen, Founder of The PR Trust and administrator of the FCF, emphasised the role of public relations in sustainability.
“Sustainability is one of the most urgent issues in today’s world. We believe PR professionals can play a vital role in promoting sustainable practices. This scholarship aims to develop students’ social conscience and inspire them to make meaningful contributions toward a fair and sustainable future.”
Professor Kwame Karikari, senior faculty member at WIUC-GH’s School of Communication Studies, praised the scholarship's impact on students.
“This initiative not only supports the growth of young communicators but also encourages them to contribute to the fight against climate change.
"Last year’s cohort presented innovative solutions, and we expect this year’s students to continue using communication as a powerful tool for environmental change.”
The scholarship offers students the opportunity to hone their skills and use their voices to effect positive change in Ghana’s climate action efforts.
The deadline for application is 31 October 2024. The winners will be announced on 12 November 2024. Submission information can be found at http://futurecomms.org/.
