There has been a major shake-up within the structure of the police administration less than 48 hours after five robberies across the country.

Top police officials including Director-General of Operations, George Akuffo Dampare have been reassigned while a new unit - Police Intelligence - has been created.

But a security expert has cautioned Ghanaians not to celebrate yet since the second reshuffle less than a year by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is no guarantee that there will be no more robberies.

Adam Bonaa told Joy News Thursday, it is too early for the citizens to say with confidence that the changes will give them some respite from the string of robberies.

There have been five separate robberies in less than 48 hours, in which at least two individuals were left dead.

The first was an attack at the office of Royal Motors Limited at Industrial Area Tuesday and the second happened at the Tema Industrial Area Wednesday.

In the Tema attack, a Lebanese cashier at a soap-manufacturing company, Delta Agro, identified as Ahmed Safiadeen, 54, was shot in the head as the robbers made away with GHS200,000.

The money was withdrawn from the bank and was to be paid as salaries to workers of the company. The suspects trailed the victim from the bank and ended up killing him.

Hours after the Tema tragic incident, a 44-year-old woman was fatally stabbed while on her way to her home in Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

Although he has cautioned Ghanaians not to celebrate yet, Mr Bonaa said the shake-up will send a message that something concrete is being done to arrest the menace.

The security expert with Warehouse Security Limited has congratulated IGP, David Asante-Apeatu, for rising up to the challenge with his action. 

As part of the reshuffle, the police administration has created a new unit called Police Intelligence with COP Christian Tetteh Yohunu appointed as its Director-General.

Commenting on the development, Mr Bonaa was hopeful the new office will help the police to prevent major crimes in the country.
