Makeup Ghana, organizers of the Ghana Makeup Awards, has announced nominees for its maiden awards ceremony  which  is scheduled to place on the August 27 at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.

Over 24 makeup artists will be battling for the covetous Makeup of the Year award while some makeup training institutions, companies and media houses  will be recognized.

Some of the big industry players nominated are Black Secret, Paba Cosmetic, Forever Clair and FC School of Cosmetology.

Makeup Ghana seeks to create an ecosystem for the emerging and fast growing beauty industry in Ghana

The organization has the objective of creating a unified platform for the beauty industry that will bring together makeup professionals, makeup brands, beauty retailers and fashion & beauty content creators in Ghana under one umbrella to generate synergy and propel the industry forward.

This is being achieved through Advocacy and consumer education; Showcasing talent and innovation within the industry; Training and professional development of practitioners and artists; Encouraging best practices and standards in the industry, all aimed at being catalysts for growth and inspiring excellence within the beauty industry.

At a media launch to formally announce nominees the Chief Executive of Makeup Ghana Rebecca Donkor said the awards will inspire excellence in the industry.

“We need to celebrate role models and innovators, for others to follow and emulate,” she said.

The Ghana Makeup Awards celebrates makeup artists whose contributions to the beauty industry have not yet been duly recognized, as well as the younger generation of makeup artists, who are breaking new grounds and pushing the boundaries in the makeup profession.

The Awards is also to acknowledge the work of the makeup brands, retailers and other industry players who support the makeup artists to develop the industry in Ghana.

The Ghana Makeup Awards is the third installment in a series of events, earmarked at promoting and celebrating best practices in the makeup industry in Ghana.

Makeup Ghana Connects organized in March this year showcased industry players, which was followed by a stakeholder’s engagement at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel, to deliberate on issues that will promote the makeup industry in Ghana.

In order to ensure the most equitable process for choosing the best among peers, Makeup Ghana opened up nominations to all makeup artists, brands and businesses across Ghana.

Nominations for fourteen categories were accepted and nominees were shortlisted to four finalists for each category, based on criteria published as part of the nomination process.

The final category, the Trailblazer Award, is a lifetime achievement award, decided upon by the Awards Board.

Judges have vast professional experience and exposure to the artistry and business of the beauty and makeup industry.

They include Marco Louis  (Mac Cosmetics Senior MUA,  West Africa); Deborah Asare (Beauty Editor, Glam Africa Magazine ); Eki Ogunbor (Beauty Editor, Bellanaija Beauty); Nikki Boa-Amponsem (Founder/CEO, 2nd Image School of Cosmetology).
