A 20-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of his 55-year-old mother, Kubura Alhassan, in her home Tuesday morning.
Police say Osman Abdul Moomen reportedly killed his mother at about 10:30 am in Aboabo, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis in the Northern Region and fled to take refuge in a nearby forest.
The deceased sustained deep cuts on her head after Abdul Moomen allegedly struck a cooking pot against her head several times.
The youth of the community, however, fled after him and handed him over to the police after they found him.
Tamale Metropolitan Divisional Crime Officer, DSP Mick Omari Boakye, says the attention of the police was also drawn to the case by the assemblyman for the Aboabo Electoral area.
The assemblyman said that a team was dispatched to move the body to the Tamale Teaching Hospital Mortuary, but the youth of the community refused.
He further said a pathologist at the Tamale Teaching Hospital was also sent to the murder scene to conduct a postmortem on the body but the youth also declined.
ASP Omari Boakye explained that the area is a predominately Muslim community that did not allow postmortem on their dead relatives.
“We spoke to them but they will not allow us,” he said.
