Security personnel at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), have arrested James Opoku, a 21-year-old disabled man, for allegedly forging admission letter of the Medical School of the University. The suspect, who was dismissed from the Kumasi High School in 2006, was arrested when he tried to acquire a student identity card at the Great Hall of the University. Mr. Kwame Yeboah Jnr, Assistant Registrar in charge of admissions at KNUST, told the GNA that the suspect was arrested when another person’s picture appeared on the University database after his (suspect) name and particulars on the admission letter were typed into the University folder. Captain Moses Gedzah (rtd), Deputy head of KNUST Security, on Wednesday in Kumasi, told GNA that Opoku was granted bail and asked to report to his office on Monday but failed to do so and was re-arrested on Wednesday at the lecture hall of the Medical School. The head of KNUST security said investigations revealed that Opoku dropped out of school in 2006 due to a protracted illness. According to Captain Gedzah, the suspect said he wrote the November Remedial Examinations and also obtained 8-As, which he claimed was used in securing admission.
