Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service at Community Two, Tema, has apprehended a 63-year-old man for allegedly defiling a 9- year-old girl in a toilet.
Joseph Doku, a driver who resides in the Community, was said to have taken advantage of the blackout experienced in the area to unleash his libido on the primary four girl in the toilet.
The mother of the victim, according to a DOVVSU source, had noticed that whenever the daughter went to use the toilet, the 63-year-old man also went in to use the facility as they share the same washroom.
The source told DAILY GUIDE that on Monday, March 16, 2015 around 8pm, the mother of the victim could not find her daughter in the house and decided to look for her.
She repetitively shouted the name of the daughter in a bid to locate her only for the suspect to respond from the toilet that he had sent the little girl to go and buy him credit to top up what he had on his mobile telephone.
Victim’s mother realized that her daughter was in the bathroom and quickly asked her to come out.
The girl came out and upon interrogation, narrated her ordeal to her mother.
She confessed that Joseph Doku had kept her in the toilet and was having sexual intercourse with her whiles she (mother) was looking for her.
According to the minor, after the sex, the suspect opened the toilet door and asked her to sneak into the bathroom. She further revealed that it was not the first time the suspect had penetrated her but rather the fourth time.
The woman did not hesitate to lodge a complaint with the DOVVSU in the area.
Medical form was issued to the mother for the victim to take to the hospital for treatment and examination.
The medical form was returned and duly endorsed by a medical officer confirming the act.
Joseph Doku was later apprehended and was said to have admitted the offence in his caution statement to the police. “Yes I had sex with her in the toilet but it was the work of the devil,” he is reported as stating. He further added that he was influenced to defile the girl after he had taken in some alcoholic beverage.
The police had concluded their investigations, according to the source, and the suspect would soon be arraigned before court.
