A 34-year-old man, Obed Asamoah, has reportedly died following the collapse of a galamsey pit at Chirano in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
According to reports, he had gone to the site to work alongside fellow miners when the incident occurred.
In an interview, his brother, Nana Akwasi Danso, confirmed the tragic event. He recounted that he had spoken with his brother earlier that morning, only to receive a distressing call a few hours later informing him that the pit had caved in.
The victim was rushed to Bibiani Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The deceased’s remains have been deposited at the Bibiani Government Hospital morgue, while the police have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the incident.
