A 47-year old man is in police custody for attempting to purchase the blood of dead bodies at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.
Divine Adjei of Asante Akyem Wiawso had approached a security officer and offered to pay for the blood from deceased minors to cure a five-year old tetanus infection.
It is unclear what charges police at the Kumasi Central Station will prefer against the suspect.
Adjei told hospital security on Wednesday he had been asked by an unnamed reverend minister at Konongo to get the blood for preparation of a curative concoction for him.
Security officers feigned interest in the deal and engaged Adjei in a bargain.
After an initial offer of seven Ghana cedis was rejected, Adjei returned with 10 Ghana cedis in an envelope.
An audio recording captured an excited Adjei telling the security officer a 300ml bottle full of mortuary blood could sell as high as 60 Ghana cedis.
When asked how he would preserve the blood, he told the security officer he will keep it refrigerated to extend its span to a maximum of a year.
He was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police. Police will not comment on what charges they are likely to prefer against the suspect.
This is the second arrest for a similar offense this year, after an agent of a Kumasi-based reverend minister was picked up attempting to buy blood from the mortuary.
