The Upper West Regional Police Command has announced the conviction and sentencing of Mohammed Ali, who was handed a 10-year custodial sentence with hard labour by the Wa Circuit Court on Monday, August 11.
It follows a fatal motor accident on July 30, near Bugubelle, where Mohammed Ali first came to the attention of law enforcement officers.
According to a statement issued by the police, officers responding to the accident discovered incriminating evidence on Ali at the scene, including a quantity of ammunition and an offensive weapon.
Upon further interrogation, Ali admitted full awareness of the items found in his possession and disclosed information related to ongoing robbery activities in the municipality.

The suspect also identified other accomplices who are currently on the run.
Following investigations, Ali was formally charged with robbery, preparation to commit a crime to wit robbery, and possession of a firearm without lawful authority.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, leading to his conviction and sentencing.

Police say strenuous efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
The Upper West Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to public safety and urged residents to continue cooperating with law enforcement to maintain peace and order in the region.
