The Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Manhyia South Constituency, Richard Adjei Mensah Ofori Atta, has raised alarm over the National Democratic Congress (NDC) 's alleged plans to create chaos during the upcoming December 7 elections.
Speaking in an interview Okay FM on Thursday, October 31, 2024, Ofori Atta claimed that former President John Mahama and the NDC are inciting their supporters to engage in violent acts, including ballot box snatching at polling stations.
Ofori Atta, affectionately known as Tom Tom, stated, “We need to draw the attention of Ghanaians to the fact that the NDC wants to plunge the nation into violence. The NDC should understand that Ghana does not belong to any one party; it is for all of us. No political party should be allowed to destroy the country, which is why I issued the red alert. The security services need to be vigilant.”
His comments came after he previously expressed similar concerns on Accra-based Angel FM on October 30, where he suggested that the NDC’s low-profile campaign indicates they are plotting a sinister agenda for the elections.
In contrast, Tom Tom highlighted the active campaigning efforts of NPP leaders, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and Dr. Matthew Prempeh, along with their wives, Samira and Alma.
He noted that party Chairman Stephen Ntim and General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong are also engaged in ground-level campaigning.
“The NDC has been in politics long enough to know that when they are not campaigning, it suggests they are planning something diabolical,” he warned. He further emphasized that elections are won at polling stations, questioning what results the NDC expects if they are not actively campaigning.
Additionally, Tom Tom accused the NDC of being behind various demonstrations, including those against illegal mining, stating that such tactics have proven ineffective.
He described Mahama's current campaign as superficial, criticizing him for failing to adequately address why Ghanaians rejected him in the 2016 and 2020 elections.
He pointed out that while Bawumia can boast of leading 33 impactful initiatives, Mahama struggles to highlight even three significant policies from his presidency.
Tom Tom also took issue with Mahama's past opposition to the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, calling him disingenuous for now claiming he would improve it if re-elected. He concluded by urging Ghanaians to reject the NDC, labeling them as "nation wreckers" and asserting that the NPP is the party dedicated to national development.
