A two-year old boy was killed on Easter Monday when his father’s vehicle accidentally runs over him in their house at Fiapre near Sunyani.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Assistant Superintendent of Police Ansu Frimpong of the Motor Transport and Traffic Unit (MTTU) said, the incident occurred when the father, Mr Ransford Edmund Asamoah wanted to park his Hyundai truck in his garage.
He said Mr Asamoah had returned home from town and as he reversed the truck with registration number BA 1212Y, it accidentally run over the boy who was at the time standing behind the vehicle.
The boy was rushed to the regional hospital in Sunyani, but died on arrival and the body had been deposited at the mortuary.
ASP Frimpong said the father was arrested to assist police in investigations but has now been granted bail.
In another development, a 40-year old farmer died when his motor bike was involved in an accident.
ASP Frimpong said the deceased, Anthony Obeng, was riding the motor bike with registration number BA 1682 from Sunyani towards Dumasua in Sunyani Municipality when the incident happened.
He said on reaching Fiapre, the motor bike veered from the road into a nearby gutter.
ASP Frimpong said the deceased who was not wearing a helmet, sustained head injuries and therefore died on the way to the hospital.
The body has been deposited at the Sunyani Regional Hospital mortuary pending autopsy.
