Adeiso Police in the Eastern Region have apprehended a 42-year-old man for allegedly defiling an adolescent girl.
The suspect, Kwabena Boateng, a mason, according to the police had sexual intercourse with the minor in a room they shared together with the victim's mother at Kwesi Nyarko, a suburb of Adeiso.
Narrating what led to the incident, the Adeiso District Police Commander, ASP Bafuor Awuah, said the suspect was hired by the victim's mother to work on a building.
He explained that after completing the work, Boateng told the victim's mother he could not return to his house because it was late.
The victim's mother then accommodated the suspect in the same room where she sleeps with her daughter.
In the wee hours of the night, Kwabena Boateng claiming to have been drunk allegedly pounced on the 10-year-old while her mother was asleep.
ASP Awuah stated that the victim informed her mother the next morning how the suspect had had sex with her after experiencing difficulty in walking.
A complaint was immediately lodged with the police for Boateng's arrest.
ASP Awuah noted that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to sleeping with the minor.
According to the police, Boateng's defence was he mistook the victim for her mother.
Meanwhile, the suspect will be arraigned and charged with defilement.
