The Annual funfair for masqueraders at Winneba, the district capital of the Awutu Effutu-Senya district in the Central Region has made the town noted for its famous Aboakyer festival, an important tourist destination.
The annual funfair for the masqueraders, popularly called ‘fancy dress’ held on every New Year Day, this year attracted a large number of tourists from abroad who came to witness the event that is gradually becoming a second festival for the people of Winneba.
The football field of the University of Education where the event was held was packed to capacity as people from far and near celebrated their new year with the masqueraders who were divided into three groups to compete for honours in march past, ‘fancy dress’, dance in blues, highlife and speed dance.
The event was witnessed also by the district chief executive of the area, Mr. Solomon Abam Quaye, Member of Parliament, Mr. Samuel Owusu— Agyei, the former MP, Mr. Mike Hammah and other distinguished citizens of the town.
The Egyaa Masquerade group was backed by the Egyapaye brass band, Red Cross by Yamoah’s.
