The Central Region Director of Communications for the ruling National Democratic Congress, (NDC) and a Board Member of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Mr Allotey Jacobs, has accused the opposition New Patriotic Party for concocting the mass bus rape story.
According to Mr Jacobs, all indications point to the fact that the NPP deliberately concocted the story to create the impression that the country was unsafe and also to cause disaffection for Government. He added that the NPP is well known for character assassination and blackmail.
“We started going round to gather information and we realized that the NPP is seriously behind this story…history has certified the NPP as being masters of such games, always trying to blackmail and character assassinate a government in power when they are in opposition”.
The controversial story of a Tamale bound bus which was allegedly attacked by gun wielding armed robbers, forcing male passengers to have sex with their female counterparts seems far from over.
The story which has generated heated debates and mixed reactions from the public has been dismissed by the Police as a ‘hoax’.
The Police on Saturday, October 30, arrested the supposed eyewitness, Amina Mohammed who broke the story on Adom FM and is currently in police custody.
Counsel for Amina, Professor Ken Attafuah told Citi FM that her client has been kept in Police detention beyond the stipulated 48 hours, which he argues is a violation of her fundamental human right.
The Driver of the bus which was allegedly attacked by the armed robbers has also told Citi News that no one was raped on the bus, describing the story as a fabrication.
Speaking on the Citi Eyewitness News on Monday, November 1, Mr Allotey Jacobs said the NPP is frustrated and desperate for power and would everything possible to return to power including fabricating stories of such nature.
Asked whether he had evidence to back his claims, he said it was hard to get any substantive evidence since the whole story was planned covertly. He added that “80% of Ghanaians believe that this is another handiwork of the NPP”.
“You see things that are done covertly, it is hard to get evidence…the NPP is so frustrated and they are desperate for power and would go every length, I am telling you 80% of Ghanaians believe that this is the handiwork of the NPP”.
