An Accra Fast Track High Court today awarded cost of thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis in a case of defamation brought against Joy fm and former Super Morning Show host Komla Dumor about ten years ago.
Business magnate and politician Eddy Annan’s company Masai developers sought damages running into several millions of dollars, but the court presided over by Justice Ofori Atta awarded thirty-five thousand Ghana cedis against the defendants.
It follows an investigative report aired late 2000 which suggested collusion between the former boss of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) Charles Asare and the Chief Executive of Masai Developers, Eddy Annan.
The report suggested that Mr. Eddy Annan had exploited his links with officialdom to rip the country off following his company's sale of buses to SSNIT.
The case was first taken to the Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) for arbitration before it proceeded to court.
Lawyer for Joy FM Charles Zwennes said the trial had been a long and tortuous one but eventually court gave its judgement in favour of Massai Group.
He said the presiding judge in his ruling said Joy FM over the years had conducted itself in a responsible manner and that needed to be considered in the court’s ruling.
Meanwhile lawyer for Massai Developers, Tony Lithur, has declined comments.
