The Headmaster of the Mawuli Senior High School, Mr. Osei Nyansah has vehemently denied a publication in the Ghanaian times newspaper that students in the school were left to sleep outside whiles there is a newly constructed dormitory block waiting to be commissioned by the president.According to him, the said building has been occupied by the students since August and wondered why a publication would suggest that the facility has been left unoccupied.The Ghanaian Times newspaper on Monday published that over 100 girls of the Mawuli Senior High School were sleeping in the open because the school authorities have refused to allow them to use a newly-completed 300-bed capacity dormitory block.According to the paper, school authorities claimed to be waiting for the President to commission the new facility before moving the students into it. The paper quoted the Assistant Headmaster in-charge of Administration, Mr. Hopeson Dzah, to have said that “We are awaiting directives from the Volta Regional Director of Education as to what to do. We cannot move the students into the completed structure on our own.”Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii-Sen on Monday, the headmaster of the school noted that what the paper published is not the situation on the ground. “The publication cannot be true because since August the said building is been occupied by the students”.He stressed that since there was accommodation challenges in the school, the authorities decided that immediately after it is completed, students will move into it.”I don’t know who gave out the information and where the reporter got the story from because there are students occupying the building”.He asserted that he is shocked at the turn of events and his outfit is preparing a rejoinder for an immediate retraction of the story.He appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage in order not to create problems for people in authority. The assistant headmaster of the Mawuli Senior High School who was quoted to have said that the school is awaiting a directive from the regional director of education’s office denied ever saying that the dormitory is being reserved for the president to commission.Mr. Hopeson Dzah said the exact statement he made was that the keys to the new building had not been handed over to them. ”The reporter in the company of Mr. Henry Ametefe, Regional Co-ordinator of NADMO to ascertain the veracity of news that students were sleeping in the open came to the school when the headmaster was not around. Mr. Ametefe said that he has heard that students sleep in the open and I told him the students are sleeping in a dormitory. The reporter also asked why the new dormitory is not being occupied and I told him the keys to the facility have not been handed over to us but I don’t understand why the report says the building is awaiting the president to commission it”.
